It’s been a whole half year since my household cut the cord. We have received several calls from DirecTV and Time Warner asking if I would like a TV bundle, I literally laugh at them. They ask what I am paying and I say, “well $8 for Hulu, $14 for Netflix, and nothing for my antenna.” Then I ask if they can beat that price. The answer is of course, no. I’ve rented a couple movies from Amazon which didn’t cost really anything with the promotions I’ve opted into.
Ok my first concern was, where am I going to get children’s programming for my son? Not long after we started it all, it was like I struck gold: Amazon had “Sesame Street” episodes, then Netflix got more episodes, plus “Yo Gabba Gabba!”, and tons of other PBS stuff.
Next I was worried about missing current shows, Hulu Plus is still catching up on this one, but it’s also pretty easy to catch a show on when it first airs via the antenna.
We have since saved some $360, give or take, since we cut the cord. The Roku has more then payed for it self, along with the subscriptions.
Over all the experience has been great, no issues. But as I have said before, it’s not for everybody just yet.
Things have been more then busy for me, lots of work and a new child on the way. So I”ll do my best to keep the site updated. Thanks for sticking with me. I’ll put up a review soon about how the cord cutting has been going, and favored Android Apps in the near future.
